The
creative partnership of Nancy Beaudette and Noella
Cotnam began in 1982 with the formation of Sign
It Signs and Design. Their first sign
shop was located in the summer kitchen of a century-old
farm house north of Williamstown, Ontario, so it
was only natural that some of the first recipients
of their signs were farmers. The pair thoroughly
enjoyed meeting the rural clientele and doing their
sign work, which usually entailed highly personalized
signs depicting the farm and family names, a hand-painted
pictorial and signature flourishes.
As the girls saw demand for their unique
signs increase, it was necessary to start thinking like
business women. In 1987 a shop was opened in downtown
Cornwall and the rest is literally history. To date,
the two have won dozens of international design awards,
have been featured in numerous trade magazines, and are
respected speakers and teachers at industry conventions
around the world. They were the recipients of the Chamber
of Commerce coveted "Small Business of the Year" award
in 1994, and were again honoured with the "Breakthrough" award
in 2001 for outstanding community involvement. Currently,
Sign It resides in a 5000 square foot shop in the Industrial
Park in Cornwall.
"We often reminisce about how all
this started", say Nancy, "it's hard to believe
what can be accomplished with a little hard work and
perseverance." These two girls from the country
have seen many changes in the sign business over the
past 25 years, and have worked diligently to keep up
with the ever changing trends, but they are most proud
of their continued involvement with the farm industry. "Sometimes
you just know you're in your comfort zone", Noella
proudly declares," which is why we formalized FarmSigns.com
as an off-shoot of Sign It. Making farm signs is something
we will continue to do for a long, long time."
All Signmakers are not created equal,
that's why the talent at Farmsigns.com was hand-picked…to
ensure continuity and high standards of quality. We are
pleased to introduce you to Robbie Duval and Suzanne
Stang, both highly skilled signmakers who have been with
the company for many years. You'll get to know Robbie
quickly, as she is on the front lines, answering calls,
preparing quotes, and designing. When she's not doing
that, she's in the shop painting and finishing your signs.
Suzanne, on the other hand, always has her hands full
doing woodworking, sandblasting, painting and a whole
list of other things too numerous to mention. To borrow
a familiar phrase, - "you're in good hands" -
no matter who you're dealing with at Farmsigns.com. |
