What are the signs made of?

Sandblasted signs have the unique appearance of wood grain and are the most popular product at Farmsigns.com. They are made using vertical grain California redwood which is naturally resistant to decay and insects. The vertical grain is important because it adds stability to the panel. Like all wood, redwood will absorb or discharge moisture throughout the year causing the panel to expand or contract. Vertical grain redwood is less likely to warp, split, cup or check than other wood. With redwood you get both natural beauty and quality performance.

Flat Painted signs may not have a charming wood grain background, but the farm sign designs still translate beautifully on this medium. They are made using 3/4" MDO plywood which is exterior grade plywood with a weather-resistant resin overlay bonded to the wood by heat and pressure. The overlay resists water, weather, wear and degradation. Painted finishes on MDO last up to three times longer than the same finish applied to ordinary plywood.

How long will they last?

The biggest culprit contributing to the aging process of a sign is the sun. The painted finishes on our signs will last from seven to ten years depending on the exposure. South facing signs, for instance, will fade sooner than a north facing sign. (TIP: turn double sided signs around once a year to ensure equal exposure on both sides)

Sandblasted signs are made with redwood which has a natural resistance to rot and can last indefinitely. These signs are finished primarily with acrylic latex paints - our preferred brand is SICO. The beauty of this product is that a little fading may even add additional charm to the sign, but refinishing the panel is recommended once the fading becomes pronounced. We can do this for you, or tell you how to do it yourself.

Flat Painted signs are vulnerable to the sun and moisture which is why all edges of the panel are sealed with epoxy prior to painting.  These signs are finished using a high quality sign-maker's enamel - our preferred brand is Oneshot. Adding a car wax to the flat painted sign once a year will extend the life of the sign by two to four years, but once the sign has substantial fading, it should be replaced.

How much does a sign cost? Click here to find out more ...

The cost of a sign is determined by three things, 1) size, 2) material, and 3) complexity. The price can range from $400.00 to $5,000.00…it really depends on how much you want to spend. Flat painted signs are almost half the cost of a sandblasted sign, and double-sided signs are roughly 80% more than a single sided sign. Who will design my sign?

I think it is common for prospective clients to think they have to come up with their own design, but this is not the case. In fact 100% of the sign designs you see on this website are all originals. You obviously have to give us the information, like the farm and family name, and idea of what you would like the pictorial to be, colour preferences, etc, but we will put all the pieces together for you. You will be pleased to know that we have won over 36 international design awards - maybe youre sign will be honoured next!

When will my sign be ready?

The design and manufacturing process typically takes four to six weeks. For a detailed explanation of the process, click here.

Do you have a warranty?

Yes. We take great pride in producing signs that will perform beyond the call of duty. We specify only the best materials available. Our products are inspected to ensure that the highest standards of quality are met before a job leaves our shop.

In the unlikely event of a product failure, we provide you with a "FIVE YEAR WARRANTY". All labour and materials are covered for the first year; materials only for five years. Normal wear on a wood sign caused by natural exposure to the elements is not covered. Damage resulting from acts of God, negligence, or misuse are not covered by this warranty.

FarmSigns.com must be notified of a product failure prior to taking any action to repair a sign. To proceed with any work on a sign under warrantee without obtaining authorization from Sign It automatically voids any guarantees.

What are the payment terms?

It is common practice for sign companies to request a deposit prior to any work being done. It is our policy here at FarmSigns.com not to do any design work on spec. Your deposit very clearly states your commitment to work with our company. We guarantee your satisfaction of our work - 100%. If the proof is not perfect, we will rework the design until it is.

A 50% deposit is required to proceed with an order, and the 50% balance is due upon completion. Freight is extra and will be quoted on an individual basis. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Money Orders and Checks.
